How much is the cost of moving a light switch?

light switch relocation
Electrician relocating the light switch
The national range for moving light switches or relocating light switches is $130 to $180 because several factors exist. Homeowners usually pay between $100 and $200 per switch, though replacing many switches can save money.

An electrician's hourly rate is usually between $50 and $100. The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) sets rates in your area, but licensed electricians must not follow them. They can charge more or less depending on how much work they have, how much overhead they have, and other factors. We Amarillo's Yellow Rose Electricians are preferable because  we are familiar with city regulations in Amarillo.

We check with the building inspector's office before beginning work to see if a permit is needed and arrange an after-light installation inspection. These checks are required to ensure that the work was done according to standards and avoid explosions, electrocution, and other dangers.

If you're removing a recessed light switch installed or installing a new ceiling fan switch, you'll want to understand the factors that affect the project's expense.

Moving a Light Switch

The cost of moving a light switch is usually between $100 and $200. Repairs to drywall, sheetrock, and wall coverings may be needed when an electrician has to cut a hole for a light switch where there was previously none.

The switch's cost is usually low, between $10 and $20, but a smart switch or specialist dimmer could cost as much as $200.

Replacing a Light Switch

Depending on the electrician's minimum service fee, which is normally added to the switch's expense, simply fixing a light switch when it's disabled generally costs less than $100.

Switches that can be found in three or four ways

The three-way turn, which costs $3 to $15, will monitor one fixture from two positions, such as the stairwell's top and bottom. Four-way switches, which range in price from $10 to $25, enable you to operate a light fixture from three different locations.

How to Install a Smart Light Switch

If there are no complications, you can get a smart new light switch for $50 to $100 and get it mounted for the cost of a regular service call. You can use a smartphone or tablet to power your lighting, and you can also use smart listening systems to issue voice commands.

If you're going to use LED lamps with a dimmer, make sure the fixtures are dimmable. Low-wattage LED lamps are used. As a result, unless the LED light bulb is designed to dim, certain dimmers would not work.

Hire a Professional or Do It Yourself

While you could be able to find a self-help book or DIY video on the internet to help you transfer or replace a switch, certain factors might make it risky. Outdated wiring could not be able to accommodate the elevated current load, resulting in a fire. A skilled electrician may charge a little more upfront, but they can finish the job sooner and in a safer manner.
